Lurkers and Comment Whores

You know a lot has been said about lurkers. A LOT! And still somehow it ain't enough. Why you ask? Well that is a very good question. Because them sumbitches is rude!!! Why you ask? Another very good question!!!! Because we bloggers are generally comment whores. Not saying that everybody is. But let's face it. If we didn't want comments and the resulting dialog, the we would just have idle thoughts and keep that shit to ourselves.

Why are we like that? Yet another damn good question!!!! You're getting quite good at this! Because we like interfacing with others and the attention doesn't usually hurt the ego.

What...? Yeah, that is the explanation. What were YOU hoping for, the meaning of life?

Of course you are honor bound to leave a comment now. Just because you know what is up.

You already know how much I hate lurkers...well...hate is such a strong word. But I just don't GET them.

Why go to some one's blog day in and day out and not leave a comment?

It's like someone just staring and staring at you and never saying anything. WEIRD!

This is my first time to your blog and didn't want to be accused of lurking...lol

But I know what you mean. My stats say I get X amount of views per day but only a hand full leave messages.

Hmmmmm. I know I am a lurker, but now I'm so feeling you. Since I moved to wordpress I've been getting more viewers, but no comments. Rashan said I should comment more. Maybe.

Okay, I'm not a lurker in the Dyssturbed City. I live here. And I have been know to leave a comment or two.

Why? Because I had fifty bucks and the "comment whore" had a good rap.

@ OD - Yeah, I know just how you feel. In fact you are part of the inspiration for this post. You and Freaky. And The Wife of course who is the QUEEN of lurking here.

But at least you get traffic where your lurkers may not outnumber your commenters.

@ Shelia - Welcome. Hopefully you will find things to your liking around here and come back and even find inspiration to comment that does not involve me trying to shame you into it...

@ ME - The insomniac is right. I find that I am more inclined to visit folk who let me know they have been reading my madness. Makes me wanna hang around kindred spirits and all...

@ Terry - Yes. I know you are a regular and comforting sight around these parts. And don't you just hate it when you have money and somebody gets it out of you when you had no intention of letting them at it?

Funny part is that it doesn't take that much but folk just won't say "Hey!" and leave. I may have to do like Freaky suggested that he may do, withhold the next post until he gets a comment quota for the current one... Then again if I did that I may never get company.

And to be fair. The Wife is only sorta a lurker. She WON'T get an ID and comment but she does call me and discuss them from her job. I guess you guys scare her or something...

This is funny, 2nd 68. You are one dyssturbed brother.

One of my favorite bloggers gave me a light slap on the hand for using the term "Comment whore"... especially since I profess to not be one. And I am not one. The term leaves me perplexed. I am suprised anyone ever came up with such a term.

But I think you (and she) had a point. We all like comments, and we are building communities here. I like comments, but if I would turn my comments off, I would still blog... Does that make sense?

Lurkers don't bother me unless it's someone I know who isn't particularly fond of me and is just being nosy as hell. I've been know to lurk here and there. Or even use a fake name because I don't want that person's traffic hitting my blog... But that's just me.

So, 2nd 68, I have left a comment for your Dyssturbed ass! Are ya happy!

LOL!!!!

Yep, Oldgirl, the blog title is truth in advertising.

Aw c'mon. You can admit to being just a little CW.

"...and we are building communities here." That is such a true statement. In fact that is it in a nutshell. And it does make sense that you would still blog if your comments were off. I still have quite a few posts that are comment free. But that never stops me. I know it wouldn't stop you because then you would have to write a novel or something. Are you a retired court reporter or something? Even your short ones rival my long ones...

Dang fake names? Secret Agent Oldgirl are ya?

Yes, I am happy! Love you, love you, love you!

I'm late but anyone who has read me for a little bit knows about my disdain and contempt for lurkers. It's rude as hell for people to come all up in your house and not speak and my blog is one of my Internet cribs. One reason I left blogger was specifically so I'd have the ability to block the buggers.

I've had a couple of lurkers I know for a fact that used names other than their blogger names on the few occasions I don't block them and they actually say something. That's really annoying.

I figure if you can come by enough for me to know your IP address then you obviously like reading me so why not man up or woman up and leave a comment or quit stalking me? I figure a comment is just a sign of appreciation but barring that I also take payments via PayPal. Either is fine with me. LOL

LMAO @ Diva.

True, there is nothing but truth in this post, dripping with sarcasm, but very true.

Couldn't agree with you more...

TO ALL THE LURKERS I SAY: Come out...come out...where ever you are!!!

How hard is it to leave a damn comment anyway?!?!?!

The Second Sixty-Eight said...

@ Freaky - Man I don't even get the lurker mentality. Especially when you gotta go undercover and shyt. The only time I don't leave a comment is if I have NOTHING to add (constructive), or I am rushed and don't make it through the entire post. But believe me I will be back soon (usually).

@ Queen - You felt the drips? Good. Sometimes it is hard to lay it on thick enough for dripping...

@ Ms. B - I still ain't figured out how hard commenting is. Mine are easy. No word verification!

I don't mind lurkers. If they aren't compelled to comment...they just aren't. I refuse to post unless I'm inspired; so I rationalize the lurkers stance. They'll comment...when they want to.

But then again, I only care about what I think anyway. *blinking slowly*
