Anonymous said...: I started college in 1996. The total for my books(5 classes) that year was almost $600. I went off on the woman at the registar b/c I thought she keyed in the wrong price. LOL The books are a rip off. Try looking at other bookstores that sell college books. We had two college bookstores off campus and an on campus bookstore. The off campus bookstores weren't apart of the school so there books were always cheaper than on campus. Does your school do a "buy back books" at the end of each sememster? Another rip off. I paid $100 for one book and only got $20 back. Then I don't understand why they charge so much for a book that will not be used the next sememster.

Good luck with school. You can do it! Oh and I expect you to be on the Dean's List.

I majored in landscape architecture and for a color theory class I had to by a box of Co.lor Ai.d. At the time that box of small colored paper was $75!!! Now it costs $150!!! Last year I spent over $500 in books for three classes one semester.

About these new age college students, they aggrivate me. I posted about that before. I didn't have much trouble transitioning to computers, but it's getting more difficult. Now there's blackbo.ard, fac.eboo.k groups and conferences, virtual this and that! Yikes!

The Second Sixty-Eight said...: @ Southern Gal - Shoo. I wish I could get that lucky. I only got three classes and I am up to $325 and I don't know how much ONE of the books is! I now know why publishers don't ever go out of business! Buyback? That is a joke. I only did that ONCE! Stood in this long ass line to sell back my NEW books 15 weeks later for 1/3 of what I paid for them. Ain't worth it to me. I figured out what they did. I buy at 100% they buy back at 33% and sell it again at 66%. I just started selling them to folk for half price. That way we split the difference on the bookstore price.

Anonymous said...: If you're paying for the books out of pocket and not with financial aid then check out Amazon.com or one of the other larger bookstores like Borders. Textbooks are always cheaper there. Sometimes you can save as much as 30% off of the campus bookstore prices. You've already found the best way to make money selling books. Skip the bookstore and find a student. There are sites that specialize in buying, selling, and trading used textbooks.

First time I spent over $100 for a book I felt ill. I felt like I had been raped. Of course that was until I spent over $150 on a text book. Then again when I spent just under $200 for a text book. I really wanted to slap someone then.

Blackboard will make you want to scream at times. Just make sure you back up all assignments you send through Blackboard. I've had a few classes where assignments mysteriously disappeared or people stored them on Blackboard and were unable to access them due to outages or glitches.; Fri Sep 05, 01:17:00 AM EDT

The Second Sixty-Eight said...: @ Desy - Trust and believe, I do keep them. I did book buyback ONCE in my life. That was the last time. I would rather take my chances at hitting on the ULTRA hot chick than sell my books back. The disappointment from the rejection is still WAY less than from the return on investment.

@ Freaky - I am waiting on the financial aid to kick in. Okay, to pay out. Otherwise I might be in real trouble. But the process is moving lightning fast so far. I guess there isn't as much competition when you apply late as I did.

@ Rashan - That was a good strategy when I was an office slave and was in charge of the copier. Now it is not cost effective to do that. Ah the old days...

@ Mrssaditty - Well the students after me can stop looking for this crop of books to be available as used next semester. That is way too much depreciation to pay for essentially a rental.; Fri Sep 05, 11:54:00 AM EDT
